Biography

Clifford is a Senior Adviser to Opus, where he helps lead the consumer practice. He has over 30 years’ experience of advising on a wide range of transactions, mainly in the UK. His focus for over 25 years has been on the consumer sector, in particular food and drink, including on a number of pub company deals.

Prior to his current role, Clifford worked as a corporate finance adviser at Investec, Hambros and Robert Fleming. In addition, he spent three years as Business Development Manager at Grand Metropolitan, a major consumer conglomerate.

Clifford has advised mainly on corporate disposals, acquisitions, fund raisings and general strategic matters. Food and drink clients have included Bahlsen, Cadbury, Bakkavor, Britvic, Cranswick, Grampian Country Food Group, Greencore, Greggs, Produce Investments, Refresco, Uniq and Whitworths.

Clifford is currently non-executive Chairman of The Sausage Man (UK) Limited, a supplier of foods to the food service sector, and a non-executive Director of China Food Company plc, a manufacturer of animal feed and soya-based sauces.

Clifford is a qualified barrister and read Philosophy at Bristol University.
